Protect
Your vote doesn't end when you drop your ballot.
Elections in Nigeria have long been undermined by ballot box snatching, vote buying, result manipulation, and violence – and most incidents go unreported, leaving perpetrators unaccountable. That has to change.
With the Electoral Act 2026 now in force, citizens have stronger legal backing to demand that elections are free, fair, and transparent. But the law only works if citizens show up to enforce it.
On Election Day – be present, be watchful.
Stay at your polling unit after voting. Watch the collation. Results are often manipulated after votes are cast, not during. Your physical presence is a form of protection.
Spot an irregularity? Report it. Independent citizen observers can report incidents in real time to the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, of which EiE Nigeria is a proud member. You can also flag violations directly to us – tag @EiENigeria on Facebook | X/Twitter | Instagram or send us a message.
Protection doesn’t stop on Election Day.
Winning elections is one thing. Holding elected officials accountable for the next four years is another. Every promise made on the campaign trail – on security, water, infrastructure, education – is a commitment that must be tracked and demanded.
